WATER | Monday, July 19, 2021

9:33 PM

#WATER: annnnnd… relax. What a day. Moving water with complex lighting, is something cameras excel at and eyes cannot see. The movement can’t be followed by the eye so it’s impossible to perfectly visualize it. Waterfalls are generally very simply lit, and much easier to figure out. Shallow water, on the other hand, hides all manner of complexity, which makes it an absolute delight to shoot and one of the last bastions of surprise when you’ve shot it all and know what you’re going to get. Strongly recommended. #river #reflections

SHOTTOWER | Sunday, June 13, 2021

1:44 PM

#SHOTTOWER: the only remaining evidence of the #HounslowGunpowderMills established in the 15th or 16th century here is this shot tower, a small one, which was restored in 2004 and this section of #CranePark is nothing like I remember as a kid. Ultra-quiet spot, including in the nature reserve, A++ would come again. #beautifulrichmond #london #river #richmonduponthames #gunpowdermills

WALKONWATER | Sunday, November 22, 2020

11:01 PM

#WALKONWATER: the #Thames at shallow tide sees every kid and their dog out on the flats looking for shells. #river #london #sunset #richmond

LOCK | Monday, May 18, 2020

5:47 PM

#LOCK/#DOWN: it’s really not safe to swim in the Thames but it’s not particularly sensible to take a dip around the weir either. Luckily, the currents dissipate quickly and very few people take an intermission on the island between the two banks: which is what makes it so delightful for larking about. #lockdown #stuckhomesyndrome #thames #river

Foggy Morning

Always worth looking back on this stretch of the Thames on a morning like this. Lucky me.

HIGHTIDE | Thursday, December 26, 2019

6:29 PM

#HIGHTIDE: the #Thames is still tidal at this point, a few hundred metres from #TeddingtonLock, and flooding from the non-stop rain the last week is widespread. Next picture shows the #river has breached its bank. #landscape #flooding #london #richmond

THAMES | Monday, November 4, 2019

8:51 AM

#THAMES: love a foggy morning, especially when I have a camera handy. ‘Hamme’ in older English means ‘bend in the river’ and this is quite the right-hander here on the way to the station. Good morning. #richmond #visitrichmond #river #foggy #london

RICHMOND | Thursday, October 17, 2019

9:51 AM

#RICHMOND: bumped into my pal Tom, so we walked along the river, slipping and sliding on the silt left behind from high tide. #thames #london #river

thames | Tuesday, December 11, 2018

9:33 AM

Took the bus this morning. Regretted it. Jumped off, bolted down the alley next to the Boat Club, and was rewarded with the steam coming off the river on the bend. #thames #richmond #morning #commute #river

tideendcottage | Saturday, December 2, 2017

12:08 PM

Teddington Lock last night en route to the #tideendcottage #pub Recently, the weirs here have been lifted for the annual draw-off which is why you may have seen the river particularly low at times. If you didn’t already know that this lock marks the tidal limit of the Thames, well, this lock marks marks the tidal limit of the #Thames. #london #river
