BEFOREANDAFTER | Saturday, November 28, 2020

12:49 PM

#BEFOREANDAFTER: when I studied forest ecology as part of my degree, (by far the most interesting module in that half, as it mainly involved us wandering around Keele’s 600-acre woods) we learned that size kills trees rather than age, as the tree is unable to support itself with food and water, so pruning them like so keeps them healthy. Obviously this has been done properly, trees don’t cut their own hair and neither should you. My mate Kevin had the last word on pruning AFAIK, “just trying to make it look more like a tree”. #forestry #pruning #pollarding #coppicing #park #richmond

HIDEOUT | Saturday, November 28, 2020

12:38 PM

#HIDEOUT: on the posh side of #RichmondPark there is a stretch of ungainly and gangly trees folding themselves into a parkour playground of jumps, runs and shelters like this. #trees #park #richmond

WALKONWATER | Sunday, November 22, 2020

11:01 PM

#WALKONWATER: the #Thames at shallow tide sees every kid and their dog out on the flats looking for shells. #river #london #sunset #richmond

ARTHUR | Saturday, October 17, 2020

5:03 PM

#ARTHUR. I am baking. My neighbour knocks to relay a message: can you pop round to Arthur’s? There’s no electrics, the fuse box looks fine, except, ah, the RCD. It trips the moment we plug the washing machine back in. Fine. Change the plug. Trips again. Broken washing machine. Disconnect, drain, shove it out the back, heaviest thing in the house. Then it turns out his phone isn’t working. The half-arsed fitters who turned up yesterday to plug in a panic alarm didn’t do a very job of plugging things back in. Phone fixed. This is absolutely, far and away, the most excitement I’ve had all week. Arthur is 97 next month, been here since 1956. Shashi is in his eighties and these guys meet up every single evening for a drink. #friends #goodneighbours #richmond

QUEENSROAD | Friday, July 31, 2020

11:23 AM

#QUEENSROAD: my perfect way of enjoying #RichmondPark is with a #bicycle and to stray off the main road whenever possible, partially because the road is most likely place to meet inconsiderate road users, but also because one must explore. We followed this small herd of #deer - safely, with binoculars - down from the woods just past the Dip Pond. #park #lockup #nature #london #richmond #explore #exploremore

HIGHTIDE | Thursday, December 26, 2019

6:29 PM

#HIGHTIDE: the #Thames is still tidal at this point, a few hundred metres from #TeddingtonLock, and flooding from the non-stop rain the last week is widespread. Next picture shows the #river has breached its bank. #landscape #flooding #london #richmond

CHRISTMASDAY | Wednesday, December 25, 2019

10:28 PM

#CHRISTMASDAY: Saw Nick from @anglers.tw11 a couple of weeks ago and he suggested we stop by after he finished work today, so we wandered over to see him and walk the dog. Lovely day. And stopped at the #BMX track nearby in #HamLands on the way back. So lucky. Merry Christmas Ye Sapiens, whenever you are. #london #richmond #lucky

RIVERLANE | Wednesday, November 20, 2019

12:31 PM

#RIVERLANE: imagine, if you can, an Amphibious Bus (Amphibibus?) as public transport. Straight along River Lane from #Petersham Road, down the slipway and into the Thames. How marvellous would this be? Slow, yesh, but the best way to travel in London. Up and down the slipways. #publictransport #richmond #visitrichmond #thames #london

THAMES | Monday, November 4, 2019

8:51 AM

#THAMES: love a foggy morning, especially when I have a camera handy. ‘Hamme’ in older English means ‘bend in the river’ and this is quite the right-hander here on the way to the station. Good morning. #richmond #visitrichmond #river #foggy #london
